What feeds the microbiota?
Fibers, polyphenols, ferments: what bacteria live on.
- Fibers first of all: vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds — each family of fibers feeds different microbes, hence the point of rotation;
- Polyphenols: spices, herbs, tea, coffee, cocoa, red fruits, olive oil;
- Fermented foods (yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, miso…) that bring live micro-organisms;
- And by contrast: limiting ultra-processed foods and excess sugar and alcohol, which impoverish diversity.
